AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn junior quarterback Jackson Arnold and sophomore receiver Cam Coleman have been named to the watch list for the 89th Maxwell Award presented annually to the outstanding player in college football, the Maxwell Football Club announced Monday.
A transfer from Oklahoma, Arnold started nine games for the Sooners as a sophomore last season, completing 62.3 percent of his passes for 1,421 yards, 12 touchdowns and three interceptions.
Coleman, from Phenix City, Alabama, made 37 receptions for 598 yards and eight touchdowns as a freshman in 2024.
The Maxwell Award has been presented to the College Player of the Year since 1937 and is named in honor of Robert “Tiny” Maxwell who was a former standout at Swarthmore College and a renowned sportswriter and football official.
Auburn is one of 16 schools with two players represented on the 80-member watch list. The SEC boasts 17 candidates followed by the ACC (16), Big12 (15) and Big10 (14).

Semifinalists for the 2025 Maxwell Award will be announced Nov. 11, while the three finalists for the Maxwell Award will be unveiled Nov. 25. The winner of the 89th Maxwell Award will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on Dec. 11. The formal presentations of the Maxwell Award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards on Friday March 13, 2026, in Atlanta, Georgia.
