PORTHCAWL, Wales – Recent Auburn women’s golf alumna Anna Foster will make her second major championship appearance Thursday at the AIG Women’s Open at Royal Porthcawl in Porthcawl, Wales. Foster previously qualified for the event while still playing for the Tigers in 2023.

In the 18-hole qualifier, Foster birdied each of the three par-5s and carded a 3-under 68 to finish in a tie for second place.

“The 4 a.m. alarm this morning was definitely something else,” Foster said of her qualifying round. “Once I saw the draw, I was really pleased that I was out first, with the fresh greens and the calmer conditions. I was delighted to be able to take advantage of playing early and do the simple things effectively, like playing the par-5s well.

“I was first reserve for the Women’s Scottish Open last week but didn’t get in. I drove down from there on Friday and got to play at Pyle & Kenfig on Saturday and Sunday, so that definitely helped. I played in the AIG Women’s Open in 2023 at Walton Heath, and it was quite an overwhelming experience as an amateur, but now I feel I have more confidence in myself.”

At Auburn, Foster was a two-time All-SEC selection as well as an SEC All-Freshman Team member in 2021. The Dublin, Ireland, native was a member of the 2021 SEC Championship team and helped the Tigers to a national semifinal appearance in 2022 as well as national quarterfinal appearances in 2021 and 2024. She finished her time on the Plains with 11 top-10 finishes and a 73.01 career scoring average in 40 tournaments, which ranks fourth in program history (minimum 20 rounds).

After turning professional, Foster won the Maryland State Women’s Open before earning full status on the Ladies European Tour (LET) through LET qualifying school in 2025. Since earning her card, Foster has played in 11 tournaments, finishing fourth at the Amundi German Masters in June and 12th at the KPMG Women’s Irish Open in July.
