OXFORD, Miss. — Auburn soccer ripped off an overpowering 28 shots, including 13 on goal, but was only able to put one chance away as junior Grace Ivey’s 7th-minute score was all the Tigers (4-2-2) could muster, tying Ole Miss (4-1-1) to split the points Friday night at Ole Miss Soccer Stadium.
“Unfortunately, tonight, we did everything except the most important part,” head coach James Armstrong said. “We didn’t put the game away. We didn’t win. When you come on the road in the SEC and have 28 shots and 13 corners, you’ve got to get more out of it. Soccer is an unforgiving game at times, and it was tonight. Credit to Ole Miss. They took their chance when they had it.”
Auburn dominated possession, with over 60% control on the night, and greatly outmatched the Rebels on shots and shots on goal, 28(13) to 4(1). The Tigers also forced 13 attacking corner kicks, including eight in the second half, while Ole Miss earned just two.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Junior Dylan Driver cut back to find Ivey wide open at the top of the box in the seventh minute. Ivey took one touch before unleashing a laser inside the far post upper 90.
Ole Miss leveled with a goal on its lone on-target shot from Kate Smith in the 29th minute.
AUBURN NOTABLES
The Tigers’ 28 shots are the most created against an SEC opponent since 2017, when they hung the same amount on LSU.
Auburn’s 13 attacking corner kicks set a new season high by three.
Ivey’s goal was her first in the Orange & Blue. It was also the sixth of her career. Driver registered her league-leading sixth assist on the play.
