BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Sophomore middle blocker Kate Mansfield tallied 22 blocks across three victories at the Alabama Showdown over the weekend, earning Co-SEC Defensive Player of the Week with Missouri’s Maya Sands, the conference announced Monday.
The Plano, Texas native has been simply dynamic in her first season on the Plains. At 1.70 blocks per set, Mansfield ranks second in the SEC and sixth in the country.
Manfield has already etched her name in Auburn history. Her 10 blocks against Florida State were the most in a three-set match in program history. Mansfield’s 11 blocks in Saturday’s win over South Alabama were a career best and are the most in a single match across the Southeastern Conference this season.
As a team, Auburn piled up 20.0 rejections in the win over the Jaguars, setting a program record.
The honor is the first for Mansfield, and the first for head coach Brent Crouch and the Tigers this season.
