AUBURN, Ala. - As the Malveaux era enters its second season on the Plains, a bevy of newcomers will wear the Orange and Blue at Jane B. Moore Field for the first time. Throughout the fall, we’ll introduce the 13 fresh faces joining the program.

Hailing from Tallahassee, Florida, true freshman Charley Butler comes to the Plains after winning the 2023 and 2024 Big Bend Pitcher of the Year. She was a three-time All-State selection and when she signed with the Tigers she boasted over 60 career wins and over 900 career stirkeouts in her prep career. 

Q: How old were you when you started playing softball?

Butler: I was six when I started playing travel softball.

 

Q: How is Auburn different from your hometown?

Butler: It's different. My hometown is not as family oriented like Auburn. This is a small community, and it’s very family oriented and very loving here.

 

Q: What has been the best piece of advice you have been given?

Butler: If something is wrong or something is not going your way, no one should be able to tell.

 

 

Q: What is your major? What are your plans following your playing career?

Butler: My major is psychology. After college, I plan to be a sports psychologist for either a football or basketball team.

 

Q: What is your favorite softball memory?

Butler:  My travel softball team went to Alliance over the summer. We won third place in Tier 1 Nationals.

 

Q: Do you have any pregame rituals or superstitions?

Butler: I usually have an energy drink before every game.

 

Q: What is your jersey number? Does it have any special meaning?

Butler: My jersey number is 10. Everyone in my family who has played sports has worn 10.

 

Q: What is your favorite food/restaurant?

Butler: I love Mexican food. My favorite restaurant would be any Mexican restaurant.

 

Q: If you could only watch one show/movie for the rest of your life what would it be?

Butler: One show I would watch for the rest of my life is The Vampire Diaries. The one movie would be The Notebook.

When I came here for my visit, I fell in love with it. The campus is very beautiful and very nice. The community surrounds the sports and everyone here takes us in like we are family.

Q: What was your dream job as a kid?

Butler: My dream job as a kid was to be a veterinarian.

 

Q: How would your friends/teammates describe you in one word?

Butler: Clumsy. Sometimes I am all over the place and not aware of my surroundings at times.

 

Q: Do you have a favorite song that you listen to on game days?

Butler: I usually listen to rap. I also listen to Rhianna.

 

Q: What made you choose Auburn Softball?

Butler: When I came here for my visi, I fell in love with it. The campus is very beautiful and very nice. The community surrounds the sports and everyone here takes us in like we are family.

 

Q: What is one thing that not a lot of people know about you?

Butler: Both my mom and aunt won five national championships combined at UCLA.

 

Q: What advice would you give to girls who want to play softball?

Butler: Always have fun and don’t get caught up in the negative aspect of the sport.
