AUBURN, Ala. - As the Malveaux era enters its second season on the Plains, a bevy of newcomers will wear the Orange and Blue at Jane B. Moore Field for the first time. Throughout the fall, we’ll introduce the 13 fresh faces joining the program.

Leading off is sophomore outfielder Kylie Shaw. Hailing from Estero, Florida, Shaw spent her freshman season at Florida where she appeared in 35 games for the Gators. During her prep career, Shaw won multiple national championships and was a named a PGF All-American.

Q: How old were you when you started playing softball?

Shaw: Ten.

Q: Who has influenced your softball career the most?

Shaw: I’d say my parents. They spent a lot of time with me working on and off the field.

Q: What advice would you give your younger self?

Shaw: Just to have fun. I think being young, you don’t realize softball is just fun. Then when you get to this next level, you think ‘I’ve got to do this, this, and this’ … but no. Just remember to have fun. All your hard work is going to pay off.

Q: Why did you decide to transfer to Auburn?

Shaw: I just loved it. I loved the coaching staff. Growing up, the Malveauxs recruited me, so I’ve kind of always known them. Just getting here and knowing and hearing their plan, it fits exactly what I want. I want to be an All-American, and I want to win a national championship. I feel like I can accomplish those things here. Take softball out of it, the school and campus and everything is just amazing. It has everything that I want to offer.

Q: How have your teammates helped you adjust since arriving on campus?

Shaw: They’ve been awesome, just really making time to take me to church or go eat and do all that stuff. They’ve really welcomed me with open arms.

Q: What’s your major? What are some of your plans after your playing career?

Shaw: My major is IDSC (interdisciplinary studies), and I'm not quite sure what I want to do after softball. I know I want to stay involved in sports, whether that’s social media or coaching or something along those lines.

Q: What is one word that you would use to describe yourself on the field and one word to describe yourself off the field?

Shaw: I would say I’m very hard working, but I’m also loose and like to have fun and enjoy.

Q: If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Shaw: Chick-fil-A. Chicken nuggets and French fries with a strawberry acai refresher from Starbucks.

I want to be an All-American, and I want to win a national championship. I feel like I can accomplish those things here. Take softball out of it, the school and campus and everything is just amazing. It has everything that I want to offer.

Q: How is Auburn different than your hometown?

Shaw: The people here are the biggest difference. Everybody here is so nice and welcoming. It feels like everywhere you go you run into family. Everyone knows each other, and that part is awesome.

Q: What would you say the highlight of your softball career is?

Shaw: I’d probably say winning the national championship in the summer of my junior year. That was so fun.

Q: What is your jersey number? Does it have a special meaning?

Shaw: My jersey number is seven, and it doesn’t have a special meaning. I just really like the number.

Q: What is a song that has to go on your pre-game playlist?

Shaw: I actually don’t know the answer to that. I’m not a big pre-game music person.

Q: Do you have any pre-game superstitions or rituals

Shaw: I have to put my left sock on first, and I have to hit before warmups. I need to get in a groove. I go on a walk before gamedays and stuff like that. I have to get my body moving. I can’t just show up.

Q: What actor would play you in a movie about yourself?

Shaw: Blake Lively. People say we look alike.

Q: What was your dream job as a kid?

Shaw: I used to want to be a softball coach, and I still kind of do.
