CHARLESTON, S.C. – Auburn finished the first two rounds of the Cougar Classic at Yeamans Hall Club in Charleston, South Carolina, on Monday. The Tigers bounced back from carding an opening round 291 (+7) with a second round 283 (-1). The team is in 11th place with one round remaining. Tennessee leads the event by three strokes at 19-under (549).
“Not a stellar start for our opening round,” said Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen. “A few too many loose tee balls which caused some bogies and doubles. We only played four holes in the practice round. Molly (Davidson) and Charlotte (Cantonis) had never seen the course, so that cause some tension.
“Proud of how they bounced back in the second round with consistent play, but still not sharp with scoring. Goal tomorrow is to get in the red numbers!”
Auburn was led by junior Anna Davis on Tuesday, as she finished the day 1-under (141) with rounds of even and 1-under. She is in a tie for 26th on the individual leaderboard.
After shooting even-par 71 in her opening round, sophomore Balma Dávalos fell to 3-over midway through her second round before carding an eagle on the par-4 15th hole. She later finished her round with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 4 and 5 to post another 71 (E). Davalos is tied for 33rd individually through two rounds.
In her Auburn debut, Davidson recorded a 36-hole score of 144 (+2) with the help of five birdies. Freshman Cantonis improved by five strokes from the first round to the second, posting a 76 (+5) and a 71 (E) to tie for 66th individually.
Tuesday’s final round will be a shotgun start at 7:45 a.m. CT, with Auburn players beginning on holes 9-11. Live scoring for the Cougar Classic will be available at scoreboard.clippd.com.
