AUBURN, Ala. - As the Malveaux era enters its second season on the Plains, a bevy of newcomers will wear the Orange and Blue at Jane B. Moore Field for the first time. Throughout the fall, we’ll introduce the 13 fresh faces joining the program.

From Danville, Alabama, catcher/infielder Brityan Godfrey joins the Tigers after three three All-State honors and four All-Area selections while competing at Harteselle High School. A true freshman, Godfrey is keeping it in the family, following in the footsteps of her older sister, Blayne, who is entering her sophomore season on the Plains.

Q: How old were you when you started playing softball?

Godfrey: I started playing when I was about six. I started because Blayne (Godfrey) started before me. I hated that she was better at me than something. That’s how I got into it. The first time I ever played was at Disney World because someone got sick on my sister’s team and I had to step in.

Q: What has it meant for you to be on the same team as your sister?

Godfrey: It’s honestly so great. I came here knowing I have the security of having her and that support system. Knowing if I ever need anything, I can go to her place. I’ve been having sleepovers at her apartment. We’re best friends, so it’s really good to connect and be on the team together.

Q: Who has influenced your softball career the most?

Godfrey: Probably my sister, she just works so hard.

Q: What advice would you give your younger self?

Godfrey: Keep grinding every day. It’s hard, but it gets better. In the long run, it’s worth it.

Q: Why Auburn for you?

Godfrey: Man, it just felt like home as soon as I got here. It’s kind of special because I got to experience my sister’s recruitment. I got to go on visits with her as a younger sister. As soon as she went on a visit here, I told her this is where I want to go before she even decided to commit. I knew my whole recruiting phase, this is where I was going. I got to work the whole summer and fall to earn a spot here.

Q: What’s your major? What are your plans for after your playing career?

Godfrey: I am an exercise science major. Eventually I would like to go to physical therapy school here at Auburn and be a physical therapist. I have had two shoulder surgeries in the past year, so I’m there every day. I’m ready to be on the opposite end of it.

Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

Godfrey: Teleportation - even though my scooter rides are very peaceful.

Q: If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Godfrey: Pasta. I love pasta. Vodka pasta is my favorite.

Q: What is the highlight of your softball career so far?

Godfrey: Being able to commit here with my sister.

Q: What’s your jersey number? Does it have a special meaning?

Godfrey: I wear 18, and my sister is 19.

Q: What song has to be on your pregame playlist?

Godfrey: “That's Who I Praise” by Brandon Lake.

Q: Do you have any pregame rituals or superstitions?

Godfrey: My hair tie. If I have a good game, I’m keeping it and not ever changing it. If one game, I do really well - same hairstyle. As soon as I do bad, we’re switching it up.

Q: What was your dream job as a kid?

Godfrey: I knew I wanted to do something involved in the medical field, so something like that.

Q: What’s one word to describe yourself on the field and one word to describe yourself off the field?

Godfrey: On the field, I would say passionate. I like getting emotionally involved in things I do. It motivates me. Off the field, I would say joyful. I like being happy and making other people happy.

Q: If you could give a message to the Auburn family for the upcoming season, what would it be?

Godfrey: Thank you for supporting us. It means a lot. We can’t wait to show y’all the hard work the team has been putting in.
