CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – No. 16 Auburn women’s golf completed the first round of the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational on Friday at Finley Golf Club in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The Tigers carded a 1-over 281 in the opening round and are in second place as a team, six strokes behind leader NC State.
“Solid start but a poor finish,” Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen said after the round. “Can’t win it on day one, but we put ourselves in good position to close the gap tomorrow. Solid play from all five players, which is a great team effort.”
Auburn junior Anna Davis had an up-and-down round on Friday, coming back from two early bogeys with a birdie and an eagle to shoot 1-under on her front nine. Davis recorded back-to-back birdies on Nos. 12 and 13 before finishing the round at 1-under (69). She is in fourth place individually.
Balma Dávalos followed up her runner-up finish in her last event with a solid even-par 70. The Auburn sophomore has now carded a round of par or better in nine straight to begin the 2025-26 season and sits in ninth place on the individual leaderboard.
Molly Brown Davidson, Charlotte Cantonis and Anne Fernandez each provided a score of 71 (+1). All three Tigers are tied for 21st place individually. Cantonis’ round was highlighted by three consecutive birdies on Nos. 6, 7 and 8 at Finley Golf Club.
Auburn will begin the second round of the tournament on Saturday. Live scoring of the event will be available at scoreboard.clippd.com.
