Derrick Brown and Jamien Sherwood both led their squads in tackles, and Jamel Dean grabbed his third interception of the season in a week dominated by defense from former Tigers.
That and more in this week’s Auburn Made NFL Rundown
Derrick Brown, DL, Carolina Panthers
Brown led the charge for a Panthers defense that held the Jets to 220 yards of total offense in a 13-6 victory, giving Carolina its third straight win. The sixth-year veteran tallied a season-high seven tackles and a pair of sacks, marking his second career multi-sack performance, including his first since his rookie season in 2020. While helping stymie the run game, Brown also played a key role in defending the pass as he batted down a career-high three balls at the line of scrimmage and pressured the quarterback three times. Brown earned an 85.8 PFF grade for the game, raising his season mark to 89.6, which is tied for second among 196 interior defenders. The former first-round pick was the only interior defender ranked in the top six in both pass rush (80.9, sixth) and run defense (81.9, sixth).
Jamel Dean, CB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Dean recorded his second interception in as many games and his third of the season during Monday Night Football against the Lions. With 28 seconds remaining in the first half, Dean picked off Jared Goff to set up a field goal and put Tampa Bay on the scoreboard before halftime. His three interceptions through seven weeks are tied for the third in the NFL and already mark a career-high for the seventh-year pro. Dean ranks second among all cornerbacks with an overall PFF grade of 86.4 and leads the position with a near-perfect 99.6 grade in pass rush, both career bests. The former third-round pick hasn’t missed a tackle this season and leads corners with a 85.3 PFF grade while allowing only 10 receptions in 189 coverage snaps.
Jamien Sherwood, LB, New York Jets
Sherwood continued to perform at a high level as he turned in another double-digit tackle performance in the Jets’ matchup vs. the Panthers. Sherwood racked up 10 tackles and has led New York in the category in six straight games. The game marked his fifth with double-digit tackles in the last six weeks and his 12th in the last two seasons. The 2025 team captain also notched his first sack of the season when he dropped Andy Dalton for a nine-yard loss early in the fourth quarter, pushing Carolina out of field-goal range. Through seven weeks, Sherwood ranks tied for third in the league with 70 total tackles. The 2024 Jets MVP boosted his run-defense grade to 84.6, ninth among 83 linebackers.
Colby Wooden, DT, Green Bay Packers
Wooden delivered a standout performance in the Packers’ 27-23 comeback win over the Cardinals, playing a crucial role in helping Green Bay’s defense force turnovers on downs on Arizona’s final two possessions as the team maintained possession of first place in the NFC North. The 2023 fourth-round pick matched his career high also recorded in week one against the Lions with six tackles and recorded his sixth career tackle for loss. Wooden’s overall PFF grade of 73.8 ranks 23rd among 196 interior defenders, while his 86.0 game grade marked both a season best and the highest on the team.
