Rounding the Bases: Florida State
Hear from coaches and student-athletes following Auburn softball's fall exhibition game versus Florida State.
โ
We've had some ups and downs in our last few outings. It was good for us to channel back in and take care of the things that are important while playing attention to the details. There's still things that we could get a lot better, but it was good to see us play well. We could have taken advantage of a couple more situations with runners on base, especially with game plans and staying on top of things offensively. It was great to break through with Destiny (Rodriguez) and Ma'Nia (Womack) with big swings. It's been great to see Ma'Nia this fall. She's grown a lot.
โ
I've put in a lot of work to get to this point. Myself and the team are going to continue to work with the coaching staff and come back even stronger in the spring.
โ
We saw some good things this afternoon with Kylie Shaw bouncing back. Haven Roebuck is a freshman. She's still growing, but she had some good at bats. It was great to see players respond. THey really did not back down. At the end of the day, that's the biggest thing to ask for. The pitchers settled in and set the tone. SJ (Geurin) made big adjustments after the first inning, right away, as any veteran would. She's been there, done that. It doesn't really phase her. She did a great job of passing the torch to Malayna (Tamborra). She threw well and kept attacking the zone. Abby (Herndon) has been trying to figure things out as the fall has gone on. She's been settling in and coming into her own. If we can get her going, it's going to be a huge boost.
โ
It's been awesome to see the crowds come out and support us like they do all the time. It sets the stage for our SEC games., moving forward. It gets us excited for the regular season and pitching in this environment. Ryker (Chason) does a fantastic job of spending individual time with us day in and day out. He's really developed our newcomers. It shows how much he cares and how much work he puts into each of us.
โ
Defensively, we've had our ups and downs the last couple weeks. We really locked in and took care of the ball today against a team that's going to put a lot of ball in play. I felt like we did a good job of taking care of the ball when we had those chances.
โ
Pitching has made some big strides. We've played a lot without SJ getting innings, so we've been able to see some of the other pitchers come into the game. Truly, some big efforts from a couple freshmen. Seeing their growth this gall, it's been like a full seven and we've only played seven games. They've really done a good job of staying steady and understanding processes really well, which is difficult as freshmen. It's very easy to get caught up in the moments. We've been able to give them some meaningful innings and get a feel for how they're going to respond to certain types of games and situations.
