NASHVILLE – After serving as the team’s strikeout leader last season, the Oklahoma City Spark selected Maddie Penta in the second round of the Athletes Unlimited Softball League (AUSL) Allocation Draft on December 1.

Penta was the seventh overall pick and will be playing her third professional season with the Spark in 2026. The Spark, along with Cascade, joined AUSL in November to up the number of league teams from four to six.

AUSL held an Expansion Draft to allow the Spark and Cascade to build a competitive foundation by selecting unprotected players who are currently rostered with the original four AUSL teams.

Penta was selected in the Allocation Draft, which allowed opportunities for all six teams to select players who opted in for AUSL consideration. This group included athletes from the 2025 Reserve Athlete Pool and professional players from other independent teams and leagues around the world, including those who previously competed with the Spark.

A two-time NFCA All-American and the program wins leader at Auburn, Penta competed in both 2024 and 2025 with the Spark. The Chesapeake City, Maryland native also competed with Athletes Unlimited in 2024 prior to joining the Spark as part of the league’s AUX division.

In the spring, the remaining roster spots for each team will be filled by draft-eligible NCAA athletes who have been selected in the AUSL College Draft. “Golden Tickets” will be delivered to these chosen athletes.

Additional information about the upcoming AUSL season, including home cities for the five other AUSL teams as well as the game schedule will be announced in the coming months.
