ORLANDO, Fla. – No. 7 Auburn women’s golf leads the field through Sunday’s opening round of the UCF Challenge presented by PDI at Eagle Creek Golf Club in Orlando, Florida. The Tigers fired an 8-under 280 and hold a one-stroke lead over No. 21 Baylor and No. 18 Mississippi State.
“Good start with three players posting 3-under rounds,” Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen said. “The highlight of the day was watching Molly Brown hole out from 90 yards for eagle on No. 4.
“One of our goals this week is to lead the field in par 3s, as they are quite lengthy. The other goal is to lead in par 5s, and we made great strides today in both categories.”
As a team, Auburn finished 11-under on the par 5s at Eagle Creek Golf Club, the best mark in the field.
Katie Cranston recorded six birdies in her opening round, including three over her final five holes of the day. Molly Brown Davidson holed out for eagle on the par-5 fourth hole before adding two birdies in round one. Anna Davis continued her solid play from the fall season, recording four birdies. All three Tigers posted 3-under 69s and are tied for fourth place on the individual leaderboard, two strokes behind the individual leader.
Carys Worby and Charlotte Cantonis each carded opening-round scores of 1-over 73, with one of the two rounds serving as Auburn’s final counting score.
Auburn will continue play Monday with the second round of the tournament. Live scoring will be available at scoreboard.clippd.com.
