BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After a pair of dazzling performances in the Tigers’ victory at the Amer Ari Invitational, Auburn’s Jake Albert and Jackson Koivun were bestowed SEC weekly honors, the league office announced Wednesday.
Albert earned SEC Freshman of the Week for the first time in his career, while Koivun picked up the 10th weekly conference recognition of his career with a nod as the league’s overall player of the week.
A true freshman, Albert earned a top 20 at the Amer Ari after shooting 13-under-par with rounds of 64, 70 and 69. He set a personal record by 17 strokes to aid in the Auburn win. Additionally, the Blackburn, Virginia native finished atop the leaderboard amongst SEC freshmen, besting the nearest trailer, who happened to be teammate Logan Reilly, by two shots.
Amer Ari’s 2026 champion, Koivun, was an easy pick for SEC Golfer of the Week after a dynamite 25-under-par performance on the Big Island. The junior shot a pair of 62s (-10) over the first two rounds to break Tiger Woods’ 36-hole NCAA record of 18-under, which he set at the 1996 Pac-10 Championship.
Koivun finished the tournament with a 67 (-5) to cruise to his sixth career individual win, tying Auburn’s wins record and obliterating its 54-hole scoring record by seven shots.
Both Koivun and Albert’s low week pushed the Tigers to their second consecutive team title with an untouchable 77-under final score, which tied the NCAA record.
No. 2 Auburn is back in action this week at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Florida. The Tigers will compete against the No. 10 Gators, amongst others, at the Mark Bostic Golf Course on Feb. 14-15.
