BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Coming off a breakout performance to help lead Auburn to the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series championship, Ethin Bingaman has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Bingaman’s honor marks Auburn’s fifth SEC Freshman of the Week award in the last two seasons, the second most in the conference.
The Redlands, California, native led the team with a .625 average (5-for-8) and .700 on-base percentage in three games in Arlington. He turned in his first multi-hit effort in the opener vs. Kansas State, served as a defensive replacement and collected a hit in game two vs. Florida State, and saved his best for last with two home runs in the finale vs. Louisville.
His two home runs in the fourth and seventh innings left that bat at 107 miles per hour and 110 miles per hour, respectively, and traveled a combined 800 feet with the second reaching the second deck at Globe Life Field. He became the first Auburn freshman with multiple home runs in a game since Brian Fletcher vs. LSU on May 16, 2008.
Coming off its 3-0 weekend, including a pair of wins against top-15 foes, Bingaman and No. 5 Auburn (6-1) start a nine-game homestand against West Georgia (1-7) Wednesday at 6 p.m. CT.
