AUBURN, Ala.— Auburn sophomore Syriah Daniels has been named to the SEC Community Service Team for women’s basketball, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Daniels continues to give back to her hometown both through team initiatives and through her own generosity. She has represented Auburn as the team's Kay Yow Servant Leader this season. In the local community, she personally provided 20 sets of headphones for students at a local elementary school to assist a teacher with a new learning technique for her class.
She also participated in World Read Aloud Day at Cary Woods Elementary school, reading to students in their classrooms. Daniels donated to Coach Larry Vickers' Books and Baskets initiative, providing books as holiday gifts for children who attended Auburn's last game before the holiday break. She also donated to Toys for Tots for the Auburn Veterans' Association and participated in the Habitat for Humanity program in the Auburn area.
This marks the 28th year for the SEC Community Service Team for women’s basketball as well as for men’s basketball. All league-sponsored sports have had a Community Service Team since 2004, with at-large teams for men’s and women’s sports being chosen from 1999-2003. The SEC began this concept with a football Community Service Team in 1994.
Daniels and the Tigers close out the home portion of the regular season Thursday night when they host Kentucky at 6 p.m. CT. It will be Auburn’s Senior Night and also the team’s Play4Kay Pink Game.
