AUBURN, Ala. — Auburn junior sprinter Kayinola Ajayi has been named the Southeastern Conference Indoor Male Runner of the Year, the league office announced Thursday. The award is voted on by SEC head coaches.
Ajayi won the SEC indoor 60m championship two weeks ago as he equaled a collegiate record with a winning time of 6.45. The native of Lagos Ikorodu, Nigeria, broke his own school record in the process and enters the NCAA Indoor Championships with the top 60m time in the nation.
The SEC title was the second conference crown for Ajayi in the event after winning as a freshman in 2024. Named the SEC Indoor Freshman Runner of the Year two years ago, Ajayi is Auburn’s first male to win the league’s indoor runner of the year.
Ajayi and seven other Auburn athletes are competing in the NCAA Indoor Championships this weekend in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Action begins Friday at 5:45 p.m. CT.
