BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After helping lead Auburn to its 11th straight regular season home series win, Mason McCraine has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

McCraine’s honor marks Auburn’s second consecutive Freshman of the Week award after Ethin Bingaman earned the distinction last week. The program’s six SEC Freshman of the Week nods since the beginning of last season are tied with Florida for the most in the league.

The Salem, Alabama, native started the week with a pinch-hit RBI single off the War Eagle Wall in left field to score his brother, Brandon McCraine, in the eighth inning against West Georgia, sparking the late-inning comeback in the walk-off win.

After reaching base multiple times in the opener against Nebraska, McCraine went 4-for-5 with a home run and six RBI as Auburn evened the series in the middle game against the Cornhuskers. He collected a pair of two-run singles in the first two innings and ended the game early with a two-run home run off the batter’s eye in center field in the seventh. His six RBI were tied for the most by an Auburn freshman since Steven Williams drove in seven runs against Longwood on Feb. 17, 2018.

McCraine and the No. 6 Tigers (9-2) start the last week of non-conference play with a midweek matchup against Samford (5-6) Tuesday at 6 p.m. CT.
