AUBURN, Ala. – No. 6 Auburn women’s golf will look to continue its winning ways this week at the Charles Schwab Women’s Collegiate Invitational at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas. The tournament will be played Monday and Tuesday.
“Colonial is a traditional course,” Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen said. “It’s tight off the tee and has small greens, so it’s a completely different style of golf course than Old Barnwell. Very challenging. We did play there last year, and we played well.
“There’s a stretch of holes called the ‘Horrible Horseshoe,’ which includes holes three, four and five. We always have a challenge within the team to play those holes at 1-over par because it’s such a treacherous stretch, and they played it great. That was the key to the golf course, getting off to a good start.”
Auburn will look to build on its momentum from its last tournament, the Old Barnwell Derby Match Play. The Tigers claimed the team title at the event, defeating Alabama, Mississippi State and Duke by 3-2 scores. The win marked the fifth team title of the season, tying the program record.
Last season, Auburn’s Anna Davis took home the individual title at the Charles Schwab Women’s Collegiate Invitational after carding a final-round 64 (6-under) to finish at 9-under-par 201. As a team, the Tigers finished tied for third at 6-over-par 846.
Colonial Country Club hosts a PGA Tour event annually, the Charles Schwab Challenge, and has hosted the U.S. Open, U.S. Women’s Open and The Players Championship. The course will play as a par 70 at 6,274 yards.
Auburn will be joined in the field by eight other teams ranked inside the SCOREBOARD top 25: No. 1 Stanford, No. 3 Texas A&M, No. 5 Texas, No. 7 Oregon, No. 8 Wake Forest, No. 11 Duke, No. 16 Mississippi State and No. 22 Arizona. Tulane, SMU, Oklahoma State and Arizona round out the 13-team field.
On Monday, all teams will play the first two rounds beginning with an 8:30 a.m. CT shotgun start. Players will then tee off Nos. 1 and 10 for Tuesday’s final round. Live scoring will be available at scoreboard.clippd.com.
