AUBURN, Ala. – Starting a week of four games away from home, No. 5 Auburn (19-4) travels to Montgomery, Alabama, to take on South Alabama (16-8) at DABOS Park Tuesday at 6 p.m. CT.  

The game will be streamed exclusively with a subscription on the War Eagle Plus Content Network. It will also be broadcast on the Auburn Sports Network and can be heard locally on Wings 94.3 FM.

“It’s a good time to clear the air, reset and see if we can’t figure out what we have to get back and focused on to play good baseball,” head coach Butch Thompson said. “Every week is going to be a challenge, and now we hit the road again for four games with in-state folks coming up.”

QUICK HITTERS

Auburn is coming off a week in which it went 2-2 against top three teams.

The Tigers are 6-0 in games played away from Plainsman Park this season, including 3-0 in neutral site games with a pair of wins against top-15 opponents.

The team is 4-1 in midweek games, outscoring the opponent 36-17 in those contests.

Andreas Alvarez is set to make his sixth midweek start Tuesday.

He hasn’t allowed an earned run in his last three starts and has posted a 0.66 ERA in his last nine appearances dating back to last season (three earned runs in 40.2 innings).

The Tigers enter the week ranked in the top 10 in the NCAA in strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.42; 1st), ERA (2.50; 2nd), WHIP (1.03; 2nd), walks allowed per 9.0 innings (2.67; 2nd), strikeouts per 9.0 innings (11.8; 8th), hits allowed per 9.0 innings (6.64; 8th) and shutouts (3; 9th)

The Auburn bullpen allowed just two runs in 11.2 innings pitched in the last two games of the series against Texas.

Auburn is 7-1 in games played in Montgomery under head coach Butch Thompson, including 4-0 against South Alabama.

Three of the last four games against the Jaguars have been decided by one run.

SCOUTING THE JAGUARS

South Alabama enters the week with a 16-8 overall record and 3-3 mark in Sun Belt play. The Jaguars beat Alabama, 6-3, last Tuesday before winning two of three games against Louisiana Monroe.

Offensively, South Alabama is hitting .284 as a team with 176 runs on 222 hits, including 47 doubles, five triples and 26 home runs. Junior infielder Brannon Wright leads the team with a .414 average, while senior infielder Blake Guerin leads the way with eight homers and 28 RBI.

On the mound, the Jaguars have turned in a 4.68 staff ERA with 216 strikeouts and 88 walks in 204.0 innings. Midweek starter Hayden O’Dell is 1-0 with a 4.74 ERA to go along with 25 strikeouts and nine walks in 19.0 innings.
