HILTON HEAD, S.C. – No. 5 Auburn women’s golf completed the second round of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate on Tuesday at Long Cove Club in Hilton Head, South Carolina. The Tigers carded a 9-over-par 293 and are tied for eighth place at 19-over 587 through 36 holes. Texas leads the tournament at 1-under 567 with one round to play.
“A lot can happen fast in team golf, and today it flipped the wrong way,” Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen said. “The team was in a great rhythm on the front nine, then hit a wall on holes 10-14. Everyone knows that is the toughest stretch at Long Cove. A bit of bad luck and a few bad swings led to some big numbers from our counters. We have played plenty of good golf, we just need to put it all together.
“Really proud of Charlotte (Cantonis) and her steady play. I’m watching her mature before my eyes.”
Cantonis led the Tigers on Tuesday, posting a 1-under 70 with two birdies. The Auburn freshman is inside the top 10 through two rounds and tied for ninth at 1-over-par 143.
Auburn redshirt senior Carys Worby made the turn at 2-under in the second round and finished 2-over for the day with a 73. Worby improved by seven strokes from the opening round and is tied for 67th at 11-over 153.
Molly Brown Davidson shot 3-over 74 on Tuesday while Junior Anna Davis provided the final counting score of the day with a 5-over 76. Davidson and Davis are tied for 38th at 6-over 148.
Auburn will begin the final round from the No. 10 tee Wednesday morning, with the first tee time set for 10:10 a.m. CT. Live television coverage will air on Golf Channel from 1:30-4:30 p.m. CT, and live scoring will be available at scoreboard.clippd.com.
