Jackson Koivun poses with the host head coach of UNF after winning The Hayt.

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – For the third time in four spring starts, Auburn All-American Jackson Koivun is an individual winner as he birdied his final hole of The Hayt to claim low medalist, also leading the No. 2 Tigers to a two-shot team win Monday at Sawgrass Country Club.

“I look at the leaderboard quite a bit,” Koivun said. “I like to know where I’m at. I knew I probably needed to birdie 18 since my playing partner and I were tied going into the last hole.”

Koivun’s birdie on the par-5 18th was the exclamation point needed to seal his victory with a final round 67 (-5). With a 68 (-4) in round one and a 70 (-2) in round two, he finished the week at 11-under-par.

As a team, the Tigers shot 28-under to edge No. 11 Texas Tech by a pair of strokes. Auburn also beat six other top 25 teams, including No. 1 Virginia and No. 15 Alabama, to improve its record to 37-15-1 (.708) versus ranked competition this season. Additionally, head coach Nick Clinard’s Tigers are now 11-2 (.846) versus the Crimson Tide since the 2021-22 season.

“Super stoked for Jackson and the team this week,” Clinard said. “Closing out a tournament had been a bit of an Achilles heel for us so far this season, so it obviously feels very rewarding to see us do that here. We will continue to build on this performance and hopefully only play better and better golf from this point forward.”

Every player in Clinard’s starting five finished the weekend below par. The reigning SEC Freshman of the Week, Jake Albert, shot 5-under with rounds of 72 (E), 70 (-2) and 69 (-3). One back of Albert was junior Josiah Gilbert, who went 4-under by way of a 73 (+1), 70 (-2) and 69 (-3). Gilbert was one of three men in the XX-player field to record multiple eagles. The Millbrook, Alabama native eagled the par-5 11th on Sunday and the par-5 4th on Monday. He’s up to 15 career eagles, tied for the third most in school history.

Both freshman Logan Reilly and junior Cayden Pope finished tightly behind Gilbert at 3-under. Reilly’s best round was a bogeyless 70 (-2) on Saturday. Pope’s best outing also came in round one, when he used an eagle and two birdies to fire a 69 (-3).

Sophomore individual player Billy Davis finished at 3-over but used a solid final-round 69 (-3) to rise 19 places up the leaderboard.

Auburn jumps back into action March 23-24 at the Valspar Collegiate, hosted by The Floridian in Palm City, Florida.
