BELLEAIR, Fla. – No. 8 Auburn recorded a second-round 4-under 276 on Saturday at the SEC Women’s Golf Championship at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida. The Tigers are tied for eighth at 1-under 559 for the tournament.
“Round two was a big step forward for us,” Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen said. “Charlotte Cantonis led the way with a beautiful 67, and we saw steady, solid play across the lineup. Tomorrow is an exciting opportunity. We get to chase, compete freely and work our way into the top eight. With nothing to protect, we can play aggressive and confident, and that is a powerful place to be.”
As a team, Auburn is nine strokes behind leader No. 5 Texas and tied with Mississippi State and Tennessee for eighth. The top eight teams after 54 holes will advance to match play Monday and Tuesday. Teams tied for eighth following the third round will be decided by a sudden-death playoff counting all five scores.
Auburn freshman Charlotte Cantonis posted the best score of the day for the Tigers, a 3-under 67, with four birdies, including back-to-back birdies on Nos. 6 and 7. Cantonis’ seventh under-par round of the season moved her up 12 spots on the individual leaderboard into a tie for ninth at 3-under for the tournament. She is five shots behind the individual leader, Mary Miller of Ole Miss.
Molly Brown Davidson also posted a round under par Saturday, carding a 2-under 68 that featured a birdie on her final hole of the day. Davidson’s 36-hole total of 141 (+1) places her in a tie for 29th.
Auburn redshirt senior Carys Worby followed a strong opening round of 3-under 67 with a 1-over 71 in round two. Worby is tied for 14th.
Anna Davis provided Auburn with a counting score Saturday, posting an even-par 70 that featured three front-nine birdies. Davis is 3-over through two rounds and tied for 43rd place.
Auburn will begin the final round of stroke play Sunday at 7:50 a.m. CT off No. 1. Live scoring will be available at scoreboard.clippd.com. After Monday morning’s quarterfinals, the semifinals will stream live on SEC Network+ on Monday and Tuesday’s championship match will be televised on SEC Network.
