AUBURN, Ala. – Head Coach Steven Pearl continues to add size to Auburn's frontcourt through the transfer portal with the signing of Iowa/Creighton forward Owen Freeman.
The 2024 Big Ten Freshman of the Year at Iowa, Freeman played his first two seasons for the Hawkeyes before transferring to Creighton last season.
“We’re beyond excited to welcome Owen to the Plains,” Pearl said. “Owen brings a unique and valuable skill set to our program. He’s one of the most polished post players in the country—his footwork, touch, and ability to score over either shoulder truly stands out. He doesn’t rely on size alone; he understands how to play, how to counter, and how to be a true go-to option on the block.”
As a true freshman, Freeman averaged 10.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.8 blocks and 1.2 assists per game to become Iowa’s first Big Ten Freshman of the Year since 1994.
Freeman was having an even better season as a sophomore with averages of 16.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game while shooting 63.8 percent from the floor, but suffered a season-ending finger injury in Iowa’s 19th game of the year.
Joining Creighton last year as a Preseason First Team All-Big East selection, an injury-plagued junior campaign saw Freeman’s production dip to 5.0 points and 4.0 rebounds in 26 games played, but he still managed to shoot 60.2 percent from the floor (56-of-93).
“What excites us even more is his potential to continue expanding his game to the perimeter while building on his already efficient production,” said Pearl. “Owen has the versatility to play multiple positions, much like many of the bigs we’ve had success with over the years, and we’re eager to help unlock that full potential.”
Freeman adds to a frontcourt that has signed talented big men Narcisse Ngoy of France and Bukky Oboye of Santa Clara for the upcoming season.
