AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn track and field put together an outstanding team performance as the Tigers hosted the annual Tiger Track Classic, Saturday April 25th. The meet was highlighted by Sophia Mazzoni breaking her own AU freshman record in javelin, along with nine personal best marks and five individual event wins. 

The Tigers recognized 20 seniors Saturday afternoon, including eight women and 12 men. The seniors honored included Shelby Balding, Gene Coetzee, Megan Hague, Danae Nembhard, Hallie Porterfield, Alyssa Quinones-Mixon, Cassidra Thompson, and Reese Webster on the women’s side. The senior men included Seth Allen, LeBron Bessick, Aaron Davis II, Azeem Fahmi, Rex Green, Austin Kresley, John Leonard, Ian Myers, Devin Nugent, Omari Lewis, Matthew Rainer, and Matthew Rueff. Senior manager, Kadisha Francois, was also recognized.

Mazzoni broke her own Auburn freshman javelin record twice Saturday, first with a throw of 52.21m/171-03 and then surpassed it again on her final attempt with a 54.50m/178-05, the 16th best mark in the NCAA this season. This marks the fourth time this season Mazzoni has broken or tied the freshman javelin record in just four collegiate competitions.

In throws, senior Megan Hague led the way with a gold medal performance in women’s shot put at 18.10m/59-04.75, the second-best mark in Auburn history. The All-American now holds nine of the top-10 performances in Auburn history with eight of them coming this season, including the school record she set last week. Hague was joined on the podium by sophomore Marley Raikiwasa, who earned bronze with a throw of 16.28m/53-05-0.

The Tigers claimed two of the top three spots on the podium in the women’s discus throw, led by sophomore Camryn Massey’s toss of 56.57m/185-07, the best collegiate mark in the event. Fellow sophomore Marley Raikiwasa followed right behind with a mark of 53.31m/174-11 to claim bronze.

On the men’s side, senior Matthew Rueff captured gold in men’s shot put on a winning mark of 18.38m/60-03.75, earning his eighth career collegiate outdoor win, including his seventh in shot put. 

Senior Seth Allen took silver in discus with a throw of 60.47m/198-4. In hammer throw, senior John Leonard also earned silver with a mark of 64.27m/210-10.

In pole vault, senior Alyssa Quinones-Mixon led the way for the Tigers, earning bronze with a mark of 4.15m/13-11.25. Freshman Elizabeth Dowdy became the No. 4 performer in Auburn history, behind a personal best mark of 4.05m/13-3.5, finishing seventh in the process. Sophomore Ansley Murphy followed with a PR of her own with a leap of 3.75m/12-3.5.

Senior Aaron Davis II earned bronze in the men’s long jump with a leap of 7.24m/23-09, his third career podium finish in the event.

In sprints, senior Reese Webster became the No. 10 performer in Auburn history in the women’s 200m with a personal best 23.05 in the race. Webster finished in fifth while junior Shonedra Richardson came in ninth, crossing in 23.77 in her first collegiate 200m outdoor race.

Senior Cassidra Thompson took gold in the women’s 400m race, crossing in 53.63 and earning her third collegiate win in the event.

On the men’s side, seniors Azeem Fahmi and Ian Myers placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 200m with times of 21.09 and 21.22. In the 400m, senior LeBron Bessick finished fourth in 46.93.

In the distance events, The Tigers swept the podium in the women’s 1500m, led by senior Hallie Porterfield’s personal best of 4:27.73. Porterfield was followed by personal best marks from Addison Boyer and Kennedy Hamilton, finishing second and third, respectively. Boyer crossed in 4:30.69 in her first collegiate 1500m outdoor race, while Hamilton finished in 4:34.74. 

Freshman Ava Fields recorded a PR in the women’s 800m in 2:11.46, finishing sixth in the event.

The Tigers return to action on Saturday, May 2 at the Torrin Lawrence Memorial in Athens, Georgia. Auburn will host the 2026 Southeastern Conference Outdoor Championships at Hutsell-Rosen Track, May 14-16.
