AUBURN, Ala. – Sophomore Abby Eddy of the Auburn equestrian team was named to the SEC Community Service Team, the league announced.

The Rocheport, Missouri native has played a big part in the Auburn community over the past two years, serving with many different organizations in the area.

Most of her time has been spent at Storybrook Farm in Opelika, Alabama, where she volunteers a couple of times a week. She primarily helps with their equine-assisted programs, working directly with children by leading horses during sessions, helping the children learn basic horsemanship skills and creating a positive, encouraging environment. She also assists with general barn responsibilities.

In addition, Eddy has spent time volunteering with CARE Humane Society. With the organization, she has helped socialize dogs and cats while the staff clean and care for the facilities. Her participation has helped support their day-to-day operations and has helped the animals become more comfortable around people.

She has also participated in EAGLES Olympics every year on campus. The EAGLES program is a comprehensive transition program (CTP) for Auburn University students with intellectual disabilities that provide a post-secondary education opportunity for students  to engage in a two or four-year campus experience to help students achieve their employment and independent living goals upon successful completion of the program. Her involvement in the program's Olympics each year included running activity stations as well as encouraging and supporting the students throughout the event.

On top of all of that, Eddy has also volunteered at the Kreher Preserve & Nature Center in Auburn. She has helped with projects like clearing areas, moving materials for outdoor spaces and general upkeep to maintain the preserve for community use.

She has also been involved with Blooms at Auburn, helping create floral arrangements that are delivered to members of the community. That includes those in assisted living facilities to help brighten their day and let them know they're being thought of.

This year, Eddy has also put her leadership skills to work as she has served as chair of the NCEA Leadership Panel. The panel is comprised of two representatives from each school as part of the NCEA and it works to promote the sport through newsletters and social media as well as looking into more philanthropic opportunities for the organization.
