AUBURN, Ala. – Former Auburn All-American Sophia Davila (née Groth) has been named an assistant coach, Auburn gymnastics head coach Ryan Roberts announced Wednesday.
“Sophia embodies everything we want Auburn gymnastics to represent – competitive excellence, consistency under pressure and a genuine commitment to the team,” Roberts said. “She’s lived the standard at the highest level and understands what it takes to win in the SEC. She has a true passion to support our student-athletes and develop confidence in high-pressure moments. She will make an immediate impact on our program and comes highly recommended. I’m thrilled to welcome her back to Auburn.”
“Paul and I are excited to return home to Auburn,” Davila said. “I have great belief in Ryan’s vision for the program and am honored to join him, Aja (Sims-Fletcher) and Adam (Duncan) in building something truly special in a place that means so much to me.”
Davila was a two-time All-American and an All-SEC performer for the Tigers, competing for Auburn from 2022-25. She was a consistent contributor on all four events, having career scores in the top 10 on Auburn’s all-time list on beam and floor.
The West Des Moines, Iowa native finished her career with 185 routines as an Auburn Tiger, competing in the all-around 28 times.
Davila graduated with her degree in exercise science in May 2024 and earned a master’s in adult administration in May 2025. She was named the 2025 SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year and finished her collegiate career as a four-time WCGA Scholastic All-American and a three-time SEC Community Service Team member. She was also placed on the Allstate NACDA Good Works Team (Winter) and was honored as team captain.
Davila has spent the past year in Dallas, working for SMU as an Athletics Development Assistant.
