AUBURN, Ala. – No. 18 Auburn men’s tennis dropped its final home match of the regular season Saturday afternoon to No. 2 Texas 4-0 at the Yarbrough Tennis Center in Auburn.

In doubles, Auburn’s Billy and Freddy Blaydes jumped out to a 3-1 lead over Texas’ Kalin Ivanovski and Abel Forger at the No. 1 position. The two sides held serve the remainder of the match, giving the Blaydes brothers a 6-4 victory. The Longhorns then won at the No. 2 position before edging out a 7-5 win at the No. 3 position to claim the doubles point.

Both teams won three opening sets to start singles play, with Auburn getting first-set victories from Hamza Nasridinov, Nicholas Heng and Manel Lazaro.

At the No. 2 position, Billy Blaydes bounced back from an early deficit against Ivanovski to tie the set at 4-4. Ivanovski then won each of the next two games to claim the opening set 6-4 before going on to win in straight sets to give Texas a 2-0 lead.

The Longhorns then earned a straight-set win at the No. 5 position to extend their lead to 3-0. At the No. 4 position, Texas’ Abel Forger won his opening set over Freddy Blaydes 6-2. Forger claimed each of the first two games of the second set, but Blaydes came back to take a 4-3 lead by breaking serve twice. Forger then won each of the next three games to claim the match 6-2, 6-4 and clinch the team victory for the Longhorns.

The loss drops Auburn’s record to 15-8 overall and 5-7 in conference play. The Tigers will finish the regular season on the road against No. 24 Ole Miss on Friday at 3 p.m. CT and No. 12 Georgia on Sunday at noon CT.
