AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn athletics will dedicate the home radio booth at Plainsman Park to the late Rod Bramblett by officially naming it the Rod Bramblett Home Radio Booth during a pregame ceremony Saturday.
Bramblett, who passed away from injuries sustained in car accident on May 25, 2019, broadcasted Auburn baseball games from 1993 to the day of he and his wife Paula’s passing and served as the Voice of the Auburn Tigers from 2003-19.
“Just a friend. I know what he means to Andy (Burcham),” head coach Butch Thompson said of his relationship during his first four years with Bramblett. “From my standpoint, Rod is still with us because of Andy’s spirit. That’s how Rod’s name comes up the most to me is through Andy.
“Saturday is a big deal, and hopefully the whole Auburn Family knows that,” Thompson added. “Both of these guys, Andy and Rod, were the voice of Auburn, Auburn football, but buddy they loved baseball, and they started over here first. I do know that from those four years. That this baseball stuff and calling those baseball games was where they got started. That first love was always baseball, and I would just say may we honor that properly to the best of our ability this weekend with that ceremony.”
A native of Valley, Alabama, and 1988 graduate of Auburn, Bramblett’s broadcasting career was highlighted by being named the National Broadcaster of the Year by Sports Illustrated in 2013. He was also a three-time winner of the Alabama Sportscaster of the Year award (2006, 2010, 2013) as presented by the National Sports Media Association.
“I can’t think of a better way to honor the legacy of Rod Bramblett,” Voice of the Auburn Tigers Andy Burcham said. “The first sport he called for his alma mater was baseball, and the new Plainsman Park was built during his tenure as the baseball voice. He loved Auburn baseball and calling games from the booth that bears his name, and this is a tremendous way for us to honor his legacy.”
