JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Jackson Koivun was named the Alabama Sports Writers Association Amateur Athlete of the Year Monday, becoming the first member of the Auburn men’s golf program to ever win the award.
This spring, Koivun led the nation’s No. 1 golf team to its second national title in three seasons while sweeping all three national player of the year awards (Haskins, Hogan, Nicklaus) for the second time in his career.
Koivun ran away with this year’s AAOTY title as he received nearly three times as many first-place votes as the next-highest finisher and only two fewer than the other 13 nominees combined.
The Alabama Sports Writers Association (ASWA) Amateur Athlete of the Year Award is one of the state's most prestigious athletic honors, presented annually to the top amateur athlete with Alabama ties based on their accomplishments during the previous year. Selected by members of the ASWA, the award recognizes exceptional performance at the collegiate, Olympic or amateur level across all sports. Past recipients include standout athletes such as Cam Newton, Casey Mize, Derrick Brown and most recently, Johni Broome, who earned the honor in 2025.
Koivun will be honored Sunday, June 14, at the annual Alabama Sports Writers Association Convention at Jacksonville State.
