Auburn in the NBA: Summer league update

The Auburn men’s basketball program had six former players participate in the NBA Summer League with impressive showings from the Tigers throughout the month of July.

AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn men’s basketball program had six former players participate in the NBA Summer League with impressive showings from the Tigers throughout the month of July.

Four players in Chaney Johnson, Dylan Cardwell, Miles Kelly and Keyshawn Hall opened play in California from July 3-6 before the entire league (including Johni Broome and Jaylin Williams) ascended upon Las Vegas for the main Summer League action from July 9-19.  

Johnson opened play in California where he averaged 14.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in two games for the Brooklyn Nets, and followed that up in the Las Vegas tournament where he averaged 13.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 3.0 steals in four games. Johnson helped the Nets go 5-3 overall.

Johni Broome saw three games of action in Las Vegas for the Philadelphia 76ers and was very impressive with averages of 14.7 points and 9.0 rebounds per game.

Dylan Cardwell averaged a double-double for the Sacramento Kings with 10.0 points, 10.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks in two games in California, then carried that momentum over to Las Vegas where he averaged 7.8 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.8 blocks in four games of action. Cardwell helped the Kings finish 5-3 overall.  

Miles Kelly, who played for the San Antonio Spurs in the summer league, averaged 11.0 points in two games in California, while adding 14.0 points in two games in Las Vegas. Kelly was highly efficient shooting just at 50 percent in the four games. The Spurs finished 4-1 in Las Vegas.

Jaylin Williams and the Minnesota Timberwolves only played in Las Vegas where Williams saw action in all five games and averaged 7.6 points and 3.2 rebounds per game while shooting 63.3 percent from the floor.

Rookie Keyshawn Hall played two games in California (5.0 points) and three games in Las Vegas (2.0 points) for the Miami Heat to round out Auburn’s summer league roster.
