AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn Soccer hits the road for the first time this season and looks to continue its potent non-conference momentum at Kennesaw State Thursday at 6 p.m. CT.
After drawing with a ranked Clemson team in the season opener, the Tigers have scored eight goals in their last two games. Currently 2-0-1 overall, Auburn is coming off decisive victories against Jacksonville State and Southern Illinois.
One of 19 teams nationally and one of only two in the SEC yet to allow a goal this season, Auburn recorded its third straight clean sheet Aug. 20 in a 3-0 win over Southern Illinois, outshooting the Salukis 23-0.
“As a head coach, you are looking for progress with each and every single game,” head coach James Armstrong said. “I have never had this before, we had 82 percent of the possession, which when you are trying to build the identity of a team that wants to be on the ball a lot and everyone wanting to be involved in the attack, it is very pleasing.
“The repress is the key right now and we are really happy with where our defensive mindset is.”
Auburn will be without freshman phenom Chloe Taylor, who is competing in the U20 World Cup for the Canadian National Team in Poland for potentially the next month. Taylor, who was named SEC Freshman of the Week Aug. 17, has scored a goal in each of her two last games.
In its most recent match, Kennesaw State (2-2) won 5-0 Sunday at Alabama State, grabbing an early lead on Lara Kennedy’s goal in the third minute.
Last season’s matchup against Kennesaw State proved to be historic for the Tigers. Erin Flurey became the first Auburn player to score four goals in a game since 1993. Flurey also recorded the second fastest brace in program history, scoring two goals in 27 seconds.
Overall, Auburn leads Kennesaw State 6-0 in the series and has outscored the Owls 24-4 overall.
