AUBURN, Ala. – Senior Anna Davis tied for first after 72 holes of stroke play and ultimately came up short in a playoff, but led the No. 8 Auburn University women’s golf team to a second place finish at the Canadian Collegiate Invitational this week in Ontario.
Davis carded a five-under overall and was at or under par in all three rounds. She opened the tournament with a three-under 69 and followed that up with a two-under 70 in the second round. Davis finished with an even par in the third (69-70-72 = 211, -5). Virginia’s Jaclyn LaHa was able to defeat her on the second hole of a playoff for the overall title. Virginia also won the team title at +1.
The Tigers placed three golfers inside the top 20 and had all six of their participants finish in the top half of the field. Auburn shot the team low round on the final 18 holes to jump ahead of Tennessee for the second-place team finish at +18 overall.
After finishing third at this event last year, Anne Fernandez (74-76-72 = 222, +6) notched a 10th place finish this year, while Molly Brown Davidson (76-77-73 = 226, +10) tied for 19th overall.
Both Charlotte Cantonis and Kallyn Black tied for 26th overall at +13 to round out the team efforts, while France Brown was one shot behind at +14 and tied for 29th playing as an individual.
Auburn also sent three golfers individually to the Bettie Lou Evan Intercollegiate at the University of Kentucky, and it was freshman Gia Raad who stole the show in her first career event by finishing as the runner up. Raad shot 68-70-70 = 208 to finish the tournament at eight under par (-8).
The Tigers are now 17-4 overall this season.
