AUBURN, Ala. – Coming off a second-place finish in her collegiate debut, Gia Raad has been named the SEC Golf Freshman of the Week, as announced by league officials on Wednesday.
Participating as an individual at the Bettie Lou Evans Intercollegiate in Kentucky, Raad shot under par in every round, including a four-under 68 in her first collegiate round. Raad shot 68-70-70 = 208 (-8) for the tournament and finished two shots off the lead.
“What an accomplishment for Gia in her very first collegiate tournament to be named SEC Player of the Week,” Head Coach Melissa Luellen said. “She is a great competitor and was chomping at the bit to play in a tournament. It’ll be fun to see what she can continue to do with the rest of the season.”
Raad carded 12 birdies throughout the 54-hole event compared to just four bogeys.
Raad and the Tigers continue fall competition Oct. 12-13 at the Haskins Women’s Intercollegiate in Columbus, Ga.
