FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The Auburn soccer team battled for 90 minutes but fell 1-0 to Arkansas on Sunday afternoon at Razorback Field.
Despite the loss, Auburn (6-2-3, 2-2-0 SEC) has allowed just three goals this season, the fewest in program history through 11 matches.
“We battled to the very end but we were missing a little bit of quality today,” head coach James Armstrong said. “We are looking forward to getting home after this five-day stretch. We will learn a lot from today as we go into the next week.”
Arkansas (4-4-2, 2-1-1 SEC) got on the board in the 20th minute when Lauren Van Rhein scored from the top of the six-yard box.
Fifth-year Dylan Driver nearly equalized for the Tigers in the 30th minute, ripping a shot from the top right corner of the box that forced the Arkansas goalkeeper into a diving save to her left.
With less than 10 seconds remaining, Hannah Bell sent a shot from the top of the box just over the crossbar as Auburn came inches from equalizing in the final seconds.
Goalkeeper Ayana Yapo matched her season high with four saves and now is one save shy of 50 career saves.
Auburn returns home Thursday, Oct. 1, for a nationally televised matchup against No. 9 Tennessee on SEC Network. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT, with the match serving as the Tigers' Kick Out Cancer game. Pink Auburn trucker hats will be available to fans while supplies last.
