AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn freshman Faith Chelangat was named the Southeastern Conference Women's Runner of the Week Tuesday for her winning performance at the JSU Foothills Invitational on Sept. 4.
Competing in her first collegiate race, Chelangat won convincingly, finishing the 5k race in 16:10.7 to win by nearly a minute while helping the Tigers win the team title. Auburn, who repeated as team champions, had six of the top 10 finishers on the women’s side to easily win the team title with 25 points.
A native of Sotik, Kenya, Chelangat is the first Auburn woman to earn SEC weekly honors in cross country since Brenda Jepchirchir in 2024.
The Tigers will return to action on September 18 at the Southern Showcase in Huntsville at the John Hunt Cross Country Running Park.
