AUBURN, Ala. – For the second time this season, Auburn freshman Faith Chelangat has been named the Southeastern Conference Women’s Runner of the Week for her silver medal performance at the highly competitive Pre-National Invitational last Friday in Terre Haute, Indiana.
It marks the third time this season that Chelangat has received weekly honors from the conference office, as she took home runner of the week honors on Sept. 8 and freshman of the week honors on Sept. 22.
Chelangat’s second-place time of 19:15.5 is the third fastest time ever run on the LaVern Gibson Championship Course, which has hosted the NCAA Championships 13 times since 2002 and will host again in late November.
Equally impressive is her performance came against a field that featured seven nationally ranked teams, including No. 1 NC State, No. 2 BYU and No. 7 Notre Dame.
Chelangat is the first Auburn woman cross country runner to win three SEC weekly honors in the same season.
The Tigers will return to action on Friday, Oct. 30, at the Southeastern Conference Championships at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia, Mo.
