Reilly wins with career low; No. 1 Auburn takes top spot after stroke play at East Lake Cup

ATLANTA – Sophomore Logan Reilly captured a share of the individual title and the No. 1 Auburn men’s golf team finished first at the end of stroke play at the East Lake Cup Monday, held at the East Lake Country Club in Atlanta.

Reilly, of Lovettsville, Virginia, carded a 7-under 65 to set a personal low on his way to winning the first collegiate tournament of his career. Sharing the individual title with Oklahoma State’s Preston Stout, the pair also set an 18-hole tournament record, besting Scottie Scheffler’s 66 from 2016.

“Logan played beautifully today,” head coach Nick Clinard said. “He hit a lot of great shots and was in complete control of his game. I’m really proud of him for getting his first collegiate win at the East Lake Cup.”

Reilly carded eight birdies with just one bogey coming on No. 15. His birdie total was second in the field.

The team came in first with a 13-under 275, seeing four of five guys go low. Senior Cayden Pope, junior Billy Davis and sophomore Jake Albert each finished with a 2-under 70 to come in tied for sixth.

“I’m very proud of the team as we played some solid golf today,” Clinard said. “We did a great job competing and were very focused from the start. Winning stroke play was important to the guys and I’m extremely proud of them."

Oklahoma State came in second as a team with an 11-under 277 with UCLA following at -8 (280). Arizona came in fourth after stroke play with a 1-over 289.

The Tigers will take on Arizona in the match play semifinals starting at 9:40 a.m. CT.
