AUBURN, Ala. – Led by head coach Melissa Luellen, the Women’s Golf Coaches Association has released its Division I Fall watch list featuring three Tigers earning recognition.
Following a strong fall season in which Auburn climbed as high as No. 2 in the national polls, Luellen is one of five coaches in the South Region named to the Jackie Steinmann WGCA National Coach of the Year watch list.
Senior Anna Davis is one 11 players nationally on the PING WGCA National Player of the Year watch list, while Gia Raad is one of six named to the WGCA National Freshman of the Year watch list.
Davis led Auburn all fall and boasts a team-low 70.8 stroke average. In four tournaments, she has finished no worse than 11th place and she won the Haskins Intercollegiate for her seventh career individual title. Davis has shot at or under par in 10 of her 12 rounds this season.
Raad burst onto the scene with a pair top five finishes in her first two career tournaments, which earned her back-to-back SEC Freshman of the Week honors. She has the team’s second lowest stroke average at 72.2 and carded a low 54 of 208 (-8) at the Bettie Lou Evans Intercollegiate.
Now in her 12th-year leading the Tigers, Luellen has AU off to a tremendous start at 37-11-2 overall. At the Haskins Intercollegiate, the Tigers posted a team score of 840 and won the tournament by 30 strokes. The 840 was the fifth lowest team score in program history.
Auburn is off until late January when the Tigers return to the course at the Collegiate Invitational at Guadalajara CC hosted by the University of Virginia in Guadalajara, Mexico.
