PENSACOLA, Fla. – Despite recording nine shots, including seven in the first half, Auburn soccer's SEC Tournament run came to an end Sunday with a 1-0 loss to LSU in the opening round at the Ashton Brosnaham Soccer Complex.
“Obviously a disappointing result,” head coach James Armstrong said. “I don’t think it was a good enough performance today. We lacked a little bit of quality. We created a number of chances but weren’t able to put one in the back of the net. We have to regroup. I think we’ve done enough for a postseason bid and we look forward to getting back out there for the NCAA Tournament and putting our best foot forward.”
The Tigers (8-3-7) controlled 52 percent of possession but were unable to find the equalizer after LSU (5-9-5) took the lead in the 22nd minute on a penalty kick from Ava Amsden.
Auburn recorded seven shots in the first half, looking to break through against the LSU defense. Senior forward Dylan Driver put an early attempt on target in the 11th minute, but LSU goalkeeper Audur Scheving made the save.
LSU created more opportunities after the break, outshooting Auburn 9-2 in the second half. The Tigers continued to search for an equalizer, with defender Jordyn Crosby putting a shot on goal in the 77th minute that was turned away by Scheving.
Auburn will look to secure an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. The 2026 championship field will consist of 31 automatic qualifiers and 33 at-large selections, with the 64-team field set to be revealed Monday, Nov. 16, at 3 p.m. CT on NCAA.com.
