Intern athletic trainers are responsible for the care and prevention of injuries for their assigned sports team and will maintain communication with Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainers, Staff Athletic Trainers, coaches, sports performance coaches, athletic department personnel, parents, team physicians and other medical specialists involved with the care of the athlete. Other duties include training room coverage and management, updating and maintaining medical and personnel records for student-athletes, and helping to improve the overall quality of the sports medicine program, team, and facilities.

Along with the experience you will gain working with a progressive sports medicine program, you will have access to the knowledge of many Certified Athletic Trainers to help prepare you for the next step in your career as an athletic trainer. This includes Bi-weekly/Monthly mentoring in-services as well as presentations in which you will be expected to participate to educate our staff on the latest topics and trends you experienced during your education.

We have a philosophy that is centered on providing medical care that puts the health and well-being of our student-athletes at the forefront and strive to have a broad base of contributing "thinkers" in developing our program among the changing landscape of collegiate athletics. To accomplish this, you would be joining a sports medicine staff that consists of athletic trainers, team physicians, clinical psychologists, and sports dietitians. All who work together in a cooperative environment and strive to provide the best medical care possible to Auburn student-athletes. We expect you to have meaningful input and involvement as a part of our staff and expect you to be a leader in carrying out the team approach in any task or challenge.

We consider our intern personnel as extremely knowledgeable individuals preparing themselves to continue in the field of athletic training. With the help of our full-time athletic training staff, intern athletic trainers will learn about the effective day-to-day administration of a team, how a collegiate athletics medical system operates at a high level, as well as other business aspects of athletic training and sports medicine. Throughout this process we feel it is our goal to better prepare you for a fulfilling and accomplished career in athletic training.

Internships are an 11-month appointment with a $35,000 stipend provided for living expenses. Positions carry a requirement for applicants to be nationally certified by the BOC and licensed by the State of Alabama upon start date of the position.
