William (Dooley) Gilchrist, from Buffalo, Wyo., was a student at the time and wrote, “When we heard our 1928 team had reached the finals in Atlanta we made arrangements with railroad people in Montgomery to stop their fast freight train in Auburn.  It did stop and had 25 or more extra empty box cars courtesy of the railroad and about 400 students (we had only 1500 total in school) got aboard.  We arrived in Atlanta the next AM in time to clean up, storm the town and take the roof off the Tech Gym the next night when Ole Miss beat us.  However, we won the battle of Atlanta that night.”
