Education: Dr. Joanna Foss earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Marist College in December 2011, where she also competed as a member of the volleyball team. She earned her Master’s degree in Sport and Performance Psychology from the University of Denver in 2014 and her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology with a subspeciality in Sport Psychology from the University of Missouri in 2019. She is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant®.
 
Job Responsibilities: Joanna takes a holistic approach to student-athlete mental health and works with student-athletes on the full spectrum of well-being from performance enhancement to clinical mental health concerns. She provides individual services and team consultation, consults with athletic department staff on student-athlete mental health needs, and develops psychoeducational and outreach programming.  
 
Past Experience: Joanna comes to Auburn from the University of Notre Dame, where she provided individual and group mental health and performance enhancement services to Notre Dame student-athletes. She also served as a facilitator for leadership development programming, created psychoeducational content for student-athletes and staff, and assisted in the development and implementation of a professional development series for staff. Prior to Notre Dame, she completed her pre-doctoral internship at UNC Chapel Hill with an emphasis in Sport Psychology. As part of her doctoral training at Mizzou, she worked as a Mental Performance Coach providing performance enhancement services to Mizzou student-athletes for four years. 
 
Personal: A native of Northville, Michigan, Joanna enjoys playing volleyball, hiking, baking, and reading.
