Christina Wakefield, a former standout student-athlete at Boston University and former assistant coach at Stephen F. Austin University, joined the Auburn soccer staff as an assistant coach on July 23, 2024.
Wakefield was tasked with leading Auburn's forward line during the 2024 season, a line that saw heaps of success. Wakefield's attacking players accounted for 26 of the Tigers' 54 goals over the course of the season. Olivia Woodson led the roster with 11 goals and three assists as the first Auburn player in eight seasons to reach double-digit scoring figures. Woodson went on to earn Second Team All-SEC honors. She was Auburn's first All-SEC forward since Marissa Arias in 2021.
Wakefield joined the Tigers after spending two seasons at SFA where she focused on the squad’s attacking players. Prior to working with the Ladyjacks, she served as a graduate assistant coach at Auburn during the 2020 and 2021 seasons.
After graduating from Boston in 2018, Wakefield began her coaching journey at Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania as an assistant coach within the strength and conditioning department as well as with the soccer program.
During her playing career as a Terrier, Wakefield bagged 10 goals, five of which came as game-winners, and assisted on seven others over 73 appearances. She was named All-Patriot League in 2015 and 2017 as well as Boston’s offensive MVP during her final season.
Wakefield resides in Auburn with her cat, Soup.
