Chad Onken comes to Auburn University after five seasons as the head assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at North Carolina State University. In addition to his regular on-deck duties for the Wolfpack, Onken played an instrumental role in strength and conditioning, team building, mental training, nutritional education and academic development of the swimmers and divers at NCSU. While at NC State, Chad was the primary swimming coach of two U.S. National Team Members, four Olympic Trial qualifiers, three NCAA All-Americans, six ACC Champions, 10 school record holders, and nine All-ACC team members.
A member of the U.S. National Team coaches database, two of Chad[apos]s swimmers represented the USA in international competitions. He was the coach of record for a 2005 World University Games gold medalist and record holder and a 2005 World Maccabiah Games gold medalist and record holder. Additionally, he has served as the primary coach of four top 100 world ranked swimmers, including the eighth fastest American ever in the 50-meter freestyle.
Onken graduated from Florida State University in 1999 with a degree in criminal justice. During his time at Florida State, Chad was instrumental in helping the team finish no worse than 12th place at the NCAA Championships. A 2000 Olympic Trials qualifier, Chad was a Dean[apos]s List student and All-ACC Academic Honor Roll team member while at FSU.
Chad has coached at all levels of swimming including learn to swim and summer league coaching, age group and high school swimming, all the way to collegiate and master[apos]s teams.
