PositionOffensive Analyst

Chris Kapilovic joined the Auburn Football staff in February 2026. He serves as an offensive analyst.

Kapilovic has established himself as one of the nation's premier offensive line coaches over a career spanning more than three decades including stints as an offensive coordinator and run game coordinator at multiple programs.

He most recently held the role of offensive line coach at Alabama from 2024-25. In 2025, he coached left tackle Kadyn Proctor to consensus All-America honors as well as the SEC’s Jacobs Blocking Trophy. Right tackle Michael Carroll was named a freshman All-American by multiple outlets.

In his inaugural season at Alabama, Kapilovic immediately elevated the Crimson Tide's offensive line performance, reducing sacks allowed from 49 in 2023 to just 24 in 2024—a dramatic improvement from 3.50 to 1.85 sacks per game. His unit featured All-Americans Tyler Booker and Parker Brailsford.

Prior to Alabama, Kapilovic's four-year stint at Michigan State from 2020-23 saw him serve as assistant head coach, run game coordinator, and offensive line coach. The 2021 Spartans achieved a school-record turnaround, finishing 11-2, winning the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, and ranking in the top 10 nationally.

Kapilovic spent one season at Colorado in 2019 as offensive line coach and run game coordinator, where the Buffaloes allowed the third-fewest sacks in the Pac-12.

His seven-year tenure at North Carolina from 2012-18 proved transformative for the Tar Heels' program. Serving as offensive line coach, run game coordinator, co-offensive coordinator, and eventually associate head coach and offensive coordinator, he helped establish numerous school records. The 2018 squad allowed just 10 sacks all season, ranking seventh nationally.

North Carolina's 2015 team ranked ninth nationally in scoring offense, led the nation in yards per play, and earned a Joe Moore Award semifinalist nod for the offensive line. That season, the Tar Heels posted an 11-3 record, won the ACC Coastal Division, and finished ranked No. 15 nationally. Under his guidance, quarterback Mitch Trubisky developed into the No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, while guard Jonathan Cooper went No. 7 overall in 2012—one of 10 Tar Heels drafted or signed by NFL teams during his tenure.

At Southern Miss from 2008-11, Kapilovic helped the Golden Eagles set school records in total offense three times, including 6,459 yards in 2011, while surpassing 5,000 total yards and 2,000 rushing yards all four seasons.

He also had stints at Missouri State, Alabama State and Kansas.

A Phoenix native, Kapilovic played offensive line at Missouri State and earned a degree in 1990. He and his wife, the former Fiona Youngt, have two sons, Carsen and Colin.
