Education: Dr. Cawthra earned her bachelor's degree in molecular biology from University of Denver in 2012, where she also played varsity volleyball. She received a master's degree in sport and performance psychology from University of Denver in 2015, and completed her Ph.D. in counseling psychology with an emphasis in sport psychology at Indiana University in 2020. 
 
Job Responsibilities: Dr. Cawthra focuses on holistic wellbeing of student-athletes through individual counseling and group consultation for mental health or performance enhancement goals. She also works with coaches on a variety of concerns that arise in college athletics. 
 
Past Experience: Dr. Cawthra comes to the Plains from Utah State University where she completed her pre-doctoral internship in Counseling and Psychological Services. From 2015-19 she worked with a variety of athletes and coaches in the Bloomington, Indiana area while working on her Ph.D. 
 
Personal: Born and raised in Colorado, Julia and her harlequin Great Dane enjoy hiking, yoga, being outdoors, and finding the best coffee.
