Matthew Mott enters his seventh year at Auburn and his second as associate head coach. He served his first two seasons as assistant coach for head coach Karen Hoppa and was promoted after the 2000 season to assistant head coach.

On Oct. 26, 2003, Mott helped coach the Tigers to a 2-0 win over LSU in the 100th win of his career as a Division I assistant.

At the start of the 2002 season, Mott took over head coaching duties while Hoppa was with the U19 US National Team as an assistant coach. Mott helped the team collect two wins over nationally-ranked West Virginia (2-0) and Evansville (3-1) at the Auburn University Soccer Complex.

Following the 2002 season, Mott was honored for his outstanding recruiting and coaching duties by being named an AFLAC National Assistant Coach of the Year, which was sponsored by Scholastic Coach and Athletic Director Magazine.

Mott[apos]s main responsibilities with the Tigers include serving as the recruiting coordinator, scouting coordinator and assisting Hoppa with all on-field coaching duties.

Prior to his time on the Plains, Mott served as assistant coach at Central Florida for four years under Hoppa.

During his tenure at Central Florida, Mott assisted the Golden Knights to a 43-32-7 mark, three Trans Atlantic Athletic Conference titles and a berth in the NCAA Tournament in 1998.

While at UCF, Mott served as the associate director of soccer camp for girls and now is director with the Auburn Soccer Camps.

Prior to his stint at UCF, Mott was head coach for four years at Hilbert College, a Division III institution in Hamburg, N.Y. During his stay at Hilbert, Mott was the school[apos]s all-time winningest coach at the time and set a school record for most victories in a season and served as assistant and goalkeeper coach for the men[apos]s program.

Mott is a 2000 graduate of Central Florida with a bachelor[apos]s degree in general studies with a minor in criminal justice. He also earned an associate of science degree in 1994 from Erie Community College in Buffalo, N.Y.

After graduating from Norwood Norfolk Central High School in Norwood, N.Y., in 1989, Mott spent four years in the U.S. Coast Guard and was stationed in Portsmouth, Va., Petaluma, Calif., and Buffalo, N.Y.

With 15 years of coaching experience, Mott has developed a great deal of experience at numerous levels of coaching. Mott, who holds a National [quote]B[quote] Coaching License from the United States Soccer Federation, began his coaching while in the Coast Guard, where he assisted its select team in Portsmouth, Va.

Mott also has experience working with Olympic Development Programs. He has been on the ODP Regional staff from 2003-present and has worked with the girls USYS Region III ODP team in Florida and Alabama as a member of their Youth Soccer Association since 1998.

As a player, Mott was a goalkeeper on the Norwood Norfolk Central High School team and was also on the Coast Guard select team for two years.

Born in Norwood, N.Y., Mott is 35 and married the former Jennifer Swartz in April of 1997. They have one son, Matthew Dean Mott, Jr., born on July 11, 2001 and a daughter, Tacie Jane Mott, born on Feb. 2, 2004.
