Mike Hartline was elevated to quarterbacks coach for Auburn in November 2022. He joined the program in January 2022, serving as an offensive analyst before his promotion.

Hartline came to the Plains after spending three seasons as offensive coordinator at Ohio Dominican University in Columbus, Ohio.

In his final year with the Panthers, the team went 7-4 in the fall of 2021 and finished fourth in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. Hartline’s offense averaged 381.5 yards per game, ranking fourth in the league. Running back Frederick Pitts and wide receiver David Turner were placed on the All-Conference First Team as the pair were among the G-MAC’s best at their positions.

A shortened 2021 spring season saw the Panthers go 4-2 against Great Midwest opponents. Hartline engineered an offense that ranked fourth in the conference with 261.7 yards per game. Running back Travis Whittaker was also named G-MAC Co-Freshman of the Year after averaging 4.8 yards per carry, registering 304 yards and five scores over six appearances.

In his first season with the Black & Gold in 2019, Hartline guided a group that ranked top four in the Great Midwest in rushing and scoring offense. The Panthers also enjoyed the conference's top pass completion percentage, 62.9, which ranked 13th nationally. ODU averaged 28.0 points per game in 2019, and topped 30 points in four outings. The efficient offense also tied for the nation's best mark in turnovers lost, seven.

Hartline joined the ODU staff after spending two years at the University of Cincinnati as the offensive quality control coach and assistant quarterbacks coach. He helped the Bearcats finish with an 11-2 record in 2018, including a victory over Virginia Tech in the Military Bowl and a win at UCLA.

Prior to arriving at UC, Hartline spent two years as an assistant coach at Ohio State as well, working with quarterbacks Cardale Jones, JT Barrett, Joe Burrow and Dwayne Haskins. He also spent one season coaching at West Broward High School.

Hartline played quarterback at the University of Kentucky, earning All-SEC honors in 2010. He was also named the Offensive MVP of the Liberty Bowl in 2008. After his collegiate career, he had stints in the NFL with the Indianapolis Colts in 2011 and New England Patriots in 2012.

Hartline has coached or played under notable coaches such as Urban Meyer, Luke Fickell, Tim Beck and Joker Phillips. His brother, Brian Hartline, played at Ohio State and in the NFL with the Miami Dolphins and Cleveland Browns, and is currently an assistant coach with Ohio State.

Hartline, from North Canton, Ohio, graduated from Kentucky with a degree in exercise science. He and his wife, Jennifer, reside in Auburn.
