Richard Long continues to be an integral part of the championship tradition at Auburn as he begins his seventh season as an assistant coach in 2012-13.

Long helped lead the Auburn men to their 16th straight Southeastern Conference title in 2012 as the Tigers won all five relays at the conference meet for just the second time ever, along with three individual events. He also helped Auburn[apos]s men to a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Championships.

Under his guidance, the Auburn men captured their 15th consecutive SEC title and 17th overall in 2011, winning five individual titles and two relays at the SEC Championships.

Long assisted the Tiger men[apos]s team to their 16th overall and conference record 14th-consecutive SEC Championship in 2010. At the conference meet, Auburn swimmers came away with seven individual and five relay titles.

During the 2009 season, Long helped coach the men[apos]s swimming and diving team to both an SEC and NCAA championship title.

In the summer of 2009, Long served as an assistant coach for Paraguay at the World Championships in Rome. He coached two swimmers to two national records.

Long served as the team[apos]s videographer in 2008 and focused on gathering underwater and above water video of meets and taking footage of the swimmers in practice. The video provided the coaching staff the opportunity to use for stroke analysis. Using Dartfish for stroke analysis, he launched a Webcast over the Internet to allow swimmers to access footage at their convenience.

As a volunteer assistant in 2007, he helped coach the men[apos]s and women[apos]s teams to both SEC and NCAA championships.

Long completed his bachelor[apos]s of science degree from Auburn University in Exercise Science while spending two years on the swimming and diving team, earning three All-America honors (200 FR, 400 FR, 800 FR).

Long, a native of Hampton, Va., resides in Auburn and is married to the former Erin Hebert. Richard and Erin have a son, Tyson Long.
